Gwendolyn Fay (Hess) Wright, 78, of Cornwall, formerly of Hershey, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 in Cornwall Manor.
She was born February 7, 1937 in Hershey, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Deppen) Hess. She attended Hershey High School and went on to pursue a professional singing career with Horace Heidt and his Musical Knights, following multiple wins on the radio broadcasted Lucky Strike vocal talent show. She was known as "Little Gwennie Hess with the big voice from Hershey, Pennsylvania", touring all over the country with Mr. Height and his band, including vocal appearances with Ray Anthony. She spent a summer singing at the Royal York Hotel with Moxie Whitney in Toronto, Canada, sang at the Banff Springs Hotel, Canada, and also had the honor of singing In Carnegie Hall, New York.
She married her high school sweetheart, Dick, and just celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Gwendolyn is survived by: her husband, Richard E. Wright; daughter, Mary Richelle "Rickie" and her husband Bruce Taylor Kirman; granddaughter, Kristin Deanne and her husband Gregory Blake Moreland; grandson, Richard Taylor Kirman; sisters, Jacquelyn L. Stern and Beverly Hess Reighn; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by twin infant sons, James Eugene & Richard Stuart Wright.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., of Hershey. The family will begin receiving guests at 10 AM.
Private interment will take place in the Hershey Cemetery.
Gwen will be greatly missed and especially remembered for her love of God, her love of music, her generosity, and her love for her family. Because she always enjoyed helping others, memorial contributions in her memory can be made to a charity of choice.

I am truly sorry to hear of your loss of Gwen. She was an amazing woman, mother and friend to many. To my dear friend Dick, and Rickie and Taylor and Kristin, you have my sincerest condolences.
Having Gwen and Dick as very special friends is truly one of the uppermost blessings of my life. From our meeting in the fifties at Franklin and Marshall through today the bond between us has been exceptional. Gwen was, and still is, our all-time Chi Phi Girl.
We've enjoyed many visits by phone and Gwen recently sang a lighthearted song for me that ended with the lyrics, "you can take the girl out of Hershey but you can never take Hershey out of the girl". It was beautiful and a moment I'll treasure forever.
All who were fortunate to know Gwen realize what a giving, loving, talented and humble lady she was having touched countless lives through the years in the loving Spirit of her Lord.
The Heavenly Choir is now even more beautiful with her addition.

Although I haven't seen Gwen in many years, I will always remember her for her sparkling personality that could light up any room. Dick and Gwen were the quintessential high school and lifelong sweethearts that everyone who knew them loved. I know that Dick will miss her dearly, but can rest assured that she is with the Lord and no longer suffering.

Dick, may the Lord bless and comfort you in this time of loss.
