Clarence Davis Obituary

Clarence L. Davis

1921 - 2012

Clarence L. Davis, born on May 27, 1921 and the only child born to James Davis and Hattie Stallworth Davis, in Macedonia, Madison County, Florida, departed this life on March 1, 2012, in Tallahassee, Florida. Both parents preceded him in death.

He was educated in Madison County in the Jeslamb Community and reared in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. While enrolled in Bethune-Cookman College, he received word to return home because of his father's illness. While home, America declared war with Japan and he enlisted to serve his country. After his tour of duty, he received an honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant in the United States Army (Air Corp).

He met and later married, Mary Ella McMillan, who preceded him in death, a young teacher from Pensacola, Florida, who was teaching in the Madison Community schools. To that union, two children were born; a daughter, Hattie Mary, and a son, Clarence James.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter, Hattie Mary Davis Young; his son, Clarence James (Beverly) Davis, Sr.; his grandchildren, Kenneth Edward McMillan (Shenifa) Taite, Franklin Louis McMillan Young, Camille Marie Davis, Clarence James Davis, Jr., Christopher Louis Davis, Constance Marie Davis, and Courtney Meryl Davis, and two great-granddaughters, Kalilah Gulshan McMillan Taite and Kadira Marielle Moledina Taite. Known as "Big Buddy" to his adopted brother, Richard Davis, and adopted sisters, Gracie Mae Jones, who preceded him in death, he leaves his adopted sister, Dosha Ware, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to keep his memory alive.

In lieu of flowers, please make a tax-deductible donation to The Ivy Connection, Inc., P O Box 3722, Tallahassee, Florida, 32315, memo: McMillan-Davis Scholarship Fund.

Services will be Friday, March 9, 2012 at 10:00 am CST, Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 500 N. Davis Street, Pensacola, Florida. He will be interred with military honors in the Barrancas National Cemetery immediately proceeding the service. Public viewing will be on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 3 to 7 PM at the church and the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Hagan and Bradwell Funeral Service of Monticello, 850-997-1300, is in charge of the arrangements.

Hattie Mary and Clarence, my family and I are deeply saddened to hear that our neighbor and friend had passed away. Several years ago at the passing of our sister (Patricia Brye) he spoke at her funeral and had everyone laughing and feeling in great spirits. We will always remember your family as friends and great neighbors and keep you lifted in our thoughts and prayers
