Gail Gentzel Obituary

Gail Buchanan Gentzel

Gail Buchanan Gentzel of Gulf Breeze, Florida passed peacefully from this life on November 1, 2014 surrounded by family, passing into eternal life with God. Born March 12, 1940, in Philadelphia, Gail was one of two children of John and Alma Buchanan. Gail spent her formative years in Pennsylvania, attended Penn State University, and became a teacher of marketing and fashion merchandising at the University of Nevada, Mount Saint Mary's College, and the University of Tennessee.

It was at Penn State where she met her husband, Walter Eugene (Gene) Gentzel. Gail was joined in marriage to Gene on August 27, 1967. They recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. After spending time at Temple University in Philadelphia, Gail and Gene moved to Pensacola, Florida and lived there for more for than 30 years.

Gail maintained enduring friendships throughout her life, from all parts of the country. Gail had a vivacious personality and was always full of energy and wit. She certainly enjoyed life to the fullest through travel, art, and style.

Gail was an avid and accomplished quilter, a member of the Pensacola Quilters' Guild and the American Quilting Society, and had works featured in the Pensacola Museum of Art. She was also a wonderful mother to Harry, her dog of eight years.

Gail is survived by her beloved husband, Gene, two sons, Kevin and Brett; two daughters-in-law, Sandriel and Courtney; and three granddaughters, Francesca, Lucinda, and Perry. A private gathering to celebrate her life was held on Pensacola Beach.

Just found out that heaven has another angel! I'm gonna miss Gail. We taught at PHS side by side and it was a privilege teaching next door to her. I even saw a quilt she was making for Brett's teacher as a Christmas gift. Such talent. For the past 6 years I've always looked forward to Gail coming in to Tuesday Morning on one of her shopping sprees, as I ended up with a part time retail job after retiring as an educator. She knew quality and she had tons of class. She always was bragging about her boys. She was so proud of them! And when the grands came, that's all she could talk about. Gail was a vivacious, talented, and brilliant woman. I was really proud to be called her friend!

My daughter, Allyson, and I have such fond memories of Gail. She and Gene reached out to us with great kindness after the death of my first husband. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family.
