On Sunday, September 23, 2012 our family suffered a great loss.
Our grandmother passed away. I loved her.
I loved the way she went to the beauty parlor once a week to get her hair done
I loved the way she smelled like pressed powder and perfume.
I loved how you had to run to get in the bathroom first or you would wait a good hour while she put on her face..
It was worth the wait though. She had beautiful soft skin.
I loved the way her finger nails were always well manicured and painted that very light pink polish. Always the same color since I was a little girl.
And her hands, they were so soft and delicate, and warm to the touch.
I remember when we went up to the cabin in the mountains for a family vacation, we played catch the snipes.. hahahaha. We used to love sitting around the fire roasting marsh mellows looking for deer eyes glistening in the moonlight through the trees. I remember pushing my brothers on the rope swing and going on nature walks and finding slimy lizards. And I remember the beautiful colored leaves, pure sun shine. We even had a bear visit one night on the little back porch looking for apples or something in the trash that caught its attention. I remember we would play board games and cards and eat mustard and sardines on saltine crackers.
One night, you know, Grams taught me how to play 500 Rummy. Her and Aunt Janie, even Jacquelyn was there. We laughed all night. I still play 500 Rummy today; I even taught my kids and a few of my friends how to play.
I remember the trailers in Indian Acers…swimming in the muddy water, afraid to put our feet down, because the bottom was slimy.I remember living in the small trailer...we (my brothers and I) would play stupid games; it was like being in a whole different world. Like out in the Wild West…
Oh and don't forget Thanksgiving at grams' was awesome. Always so much food.. and so many of us we had to stand for dinner or eat in shifts.
Our grandmother was a very fine lady, the last of her kind.
No one will ever replace her.
I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say we will miss her.
There is a hole in our hearts we need to heal, why not heal it by celebrating her, celebrate her life, fill the hole in our hearts with memories of the good things and the quirky things,
The reasons we loved her,
The reasons she loved us.
I love you grams,
Sleep well and say hello to my cousin Jacqueline, Gramps and Aunt Janie.
Love
Your Granddaughter

Wishing you comfort and peace during this difficult time. It was nice spending time with Jane at her Grandaughter, Kim's house last year during birthday gatherings and holidays. Such a sweet woman! It was always nice to hear her share her stories on raising a family, working and shopping! May she rest in peace.

My sincerest sympathies to the entire family. I will always remember taking the trolley into the city with my grandmother and seeing Cousin Jane at one of the department stores where she worked. God Bless!
