Remembering Tom this week, his great thinking mind and out standing character are fix in my mind. All through the years from childhood on to manhood he was known to me for determination, positive attitude, and quiet good humor. He grew up in a relationally strained family living in foreign lands and different cultures, yet personal fortitude carried him to find success . Appreciated by a wide people spectrum across varied relationships, especially family, friends, co-workers, protégés and unknown others Tom is dearly missed by us all.

I was fortunate to have started my career at the Hershey Medical Center with Tom. He was a delight to work with and socialize with and I'm certain is sorely missed. Although I was not at the medical center for very long, I will always remember Tom's smile and fun/friendly approach to life and work! My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends.

Dear Beth and Anna,
I/we have known Tom since High School, he was a dear friend and he will be missed by all. We are so sorry to hear that he had passed. Barb, my wife and I found out yesterday, our belated and deepest condolences to you both. I/we were privileged to have Tom as close friend back in High School; he was very special in many ways, right now I can remember many but one special time when Tom and I visited Barb and friends while they were camping, he unintentionally dumped the canoe while exiting and I was still in it, I will always remember the look on his face and the laughs that followed. I feel very privileged that I have had a part in his life and especially he in mine. Once High School/college was complete we went our separate ways, we did not communicate nearly as often as we should, but Tom’s memories will last with me forever. He is a great friend and will be dearly missed. Beth and Anna, be proud and thankful that you have had Tom in your life, your memories must be endless.
Sincerely,
Joe and Barb Reader

Having known the young Tom in high school, and having been blessed to call him a friend, it was obvious early on that he would make his mark in this world.
It is no surprise to me, and I am sure to all who knew him, that that mark would be so profound.
He was the kindest, gentlest person I think I have ever met. His laugh was contagious, his warmth was evident from the moment one met him.
It is again, no surprise, that he devoted his life to helping others, as this was a calling from within him.
I had not seen Tom in many years, but whenever his name was mentioned, or a memory was stirred, I would be reminded of his pure heart and his kind soul.
My deepest condolences to Beth, and Anna. Though we have never met, rest assured that your loss is felt by all who's lives were touched by Tom, and that we also celebrate a remarkable life, together.
God bless you Tom. I miss you buddy.

Please accept my condolences. I want to publically acknowledge that I was a "fan" of Dr Ten Have's work. His methodologic articles on longitudinal data, and practical contributions on multicenter studies and other aspects of research design, were very informative to me in my graduate studies and beyond. I was pleased to meet him when he visited Seattle shortly after I began my current position. He was very warm and encouraging to a biostatistician at the beginning of her career.

Please accept my belated condolences. I met Tom many years ago on a trip he made to my company, Eli Lilly. His work in the mental health research was very important and I always tried to read his papers when I saw them in the journals. The statistics community in mental health research has lost a great advocate.

Dear Beth and Anna, I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Tom for many years at Penn where I was so fortunate to have Tom as a mentor and friend. He was one of the rare and truly great people in this world. Brilliant, thoughtful, caring, and funny - he has left an indelible mark in my heart and soul. I send you my deepest condolences and keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I am so blessed to have known Tom.

Dear Beth and Anna,
Please accept our condolences. Tom was such a caring neighbor who always stopped to chat and was very sweet to our 3 year old son. I remember our chats as he was helping Anna on her high school search. I could see and hear in his voice and actions how much he cared for you both. Please call on us if you need anything.

Even though our girls were on the water polo and swimming teams for only a year, we spent many hours in the stands cheering them on! In that span of time, I was able to get to know Tom and Beth and their gentle ways. Laughter was always a part of our "team parents" talks.
My heart goes out to Beth and Anna and please accept our deepest sympathies,
Karen and Caitlin Daly

Tom was a gentle caring soul whose warmth you felt in every conversation. Even in our last visit at HUP, he was more concerned about my comfort in his room than his own. Truly a blessing. He is missed. God keep you Beth, Anna and your family.

I worked with Tom on the NIMH SRNS review committee. He had a great talent for being quantitatively brilliant in a way that was instructive and accessible for us less quantitative types. His ethics and care for humanity were inspiring and very evident. I've benefited from knowing him. May he rest in peace, and may his family and friends be consoled in their memories of this very good person.

I had the honor of working with Tom for nearly ten years as he served on the NIMH DSMB. He was a kind gentle man who appeared to never tire of being of service. He had such a comforting presence and was always the voice of reason. What a wonderful person he was. I am grateful for having the priveledge of learning from him, one of the most important gifts in life... how to be a kind human being. May God continue to bless his wonderful soul and to his loving family thank-you so much for sharing Tom with us

Dear Beth and Anna,
Tom will always be, for me, a very special cousin. Always, we cousins knew Tom to be generous, intellegent, friendly, energetic, a good sport, and a fun loving person to be with. He will always be a shining gem in our family.
Through the years since, he moved on to Pennsylvania, I wished your and our families would have become better acquanted, closer.
I was saddened when I heard about Tom's fight for his life and health against a severe life threatening disease, and, now, his passing away.
Please accept our most sincere condolences, from my wife, Karen, and myself.

I worked indirectly with Tom. He always had a gentle smile for me. He didn't know me very well other than our work interactions, but he would inquire as to how things were going for me, take the time to listen to me, and express concern when I was going through some rough times. He was a genuinely nice person with a wonderful spirit. I will miss him deeply, and continue to pray for your family's comfort. May your tears of sorrow soon become smiles of memories. Rest in peace Tom.

It is so sad that such a wonderful man has been subtracted from life. Tom meant so much to our team at the BAC and we will never forget all that we have learned from him as our leader and role model. Rest in peace Tom! My thoughts and prayers go out to Beth, Anna, and the TenHave family. I will never forget you Tom, thanks for everything!

I have so many wonderful memories of having the TenHave family as close neighbors and friends. I remember when Tom and Beth joyously anticipated the birth of Anna; his kindness in visiting me and bringing me a USA Today newspaper every day during an extended stay in the hospital; and Beth and Tom graciously and lovingly helping me through a very tough time. Tom is warmly remembered by me and his former neighbors in Hershey...Robin, Alfie, Jane, Wanda, and Helen.

Please accept my condolences on your incalculable loss. As a faculty member in the UCLA Department of Biostatistics, I had only occasional professional interactions with Tom, but they were always memorable given Tom's great gift for making a difference in the lives of others, and I will always be grateful for his generous offers of guidance and the many courtesies he extended over the years. Words fail in the face of such a tragedy, but Tom's life deserves always to be celebrated, and I hope you will always be able to draw strength and solace from knowing he will live on in memories and in stories and in a special place in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.

I truly appreciated everything that you had done for me at the BAC and for my nonprofit, Educational Justice Coalition!
