NORBERT JOSEPH
Mr. McGettigan resided at Meadowood Senior Living in Worcester PA, with his beloved wife, Doreen (née Straus). He was born in Highland Park PA, on July 22, 1925, one of seven children of the late John and Anna McGettigan. In addition to Doreen, he is survived by his six children and their spouses, Marianne and Edmund Kehan, Maureen and Robert Wade, Alice and Roger Barr, Suzanne Kelly, Margaret and Robert Murphy, and Norbert J., Jr. and Pamela McGettigan. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His first wife, Margaret Maloney McGettigan, predeceased him in 1974. Norbert also had 3 brothers and 3 sisters who predeceased him.
Viewing will be at St. Rose of Lima Church, 428 S. Main St., North Wales PA, on Tues., Aug. 7, from 6 to 8 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, on Wed., Aug. 8, at 11 A.M., where an additional Viewing will precede the Service from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. Entombment in the Mausoleum of Peace at West Laurel Hill Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Nursing & Rehab, Attn. Development Dept., 4401 Haverford Avenue, Phila., PA 19104.

American Legion Post 405 at the Union League and the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge Delaware Valley Chapter (VBOB) continue to honor the gallant service and loyal dedication of our comrade Norbert to veterans' causes and the planned Philadelphia Memorial to the veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
We will never forget.
Best wishes to the family & friends and may they be comforted in their grief and loss.

Mr. McGettigan,
Your family made a beautiful celebration of life for you. I touched your Purple Heart, of which I've never seen one before. So that was a first for me. Oh, and the music. It was beautiful. The priest mentioned that we now have an advocate in heaven. So thank you for that. God Bless You and your family

On behalf of American Legion Post 405 at the Union League of Philadelphia, we wish to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of our brother-in-arms and Post 405 member, Norbert.
He was a gallant warrior for freedom in WWII and was a decorated veteran. We grieve with his family at his loss and wish them comfort at this time of trial.

Heartfelt condolences to the McGettigan family. I'll always remember Mr. McGettigan fondly as a true gentleman and business icon. Whenever I see a green carnation, I think of him stopping at our desks at MCPS and presenting one to us on St. Patrick's Day. May the memories and his great legacy give you comfort. It has been a privilege to have known Mr. McGettigan both professionally and personally. He was a wonderful gentleman. I remember fondly all the Benson Table's events that my husband and I attended and my dealings with him and his office when I was a manager with the airlines. No matter what, he always had time for me. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. My deepest condolences to Doreen and the whole family.

Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Norbert McGettigan. He was the consummate gentleman, and a man who lived his Catholic faith. A Battle of the Bulge veteran, he embodied the values of the Greatest Generation. Always humble, he was always a leader. He was an inspiration to me and to all who came after him who knew him. He sponsored me at the Union League for membership in the Benson Table, of which he was a past President and faithful member. He was always considerate, kind, and thoughful. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone -- he was that kind of generous spirit who always brought out the best in all with whom he dealt. We will miss him. Rest in peace, Norbert. Our prayers are with you and with your family.

What a loss for all of us. Norbert McGettigan had that same Irish twinkle in his eyes that my Dad had; mischievous!!
He was also so kind, intelligent and FUNNY!!! Every time we bumped into each other and I introduced my friend(s), Norbert would tell them a "tall tale" about how he knew me and my family. I looked forward to it each and every time, seeking him out in the hall outside the Benson Room.

When going on client presentations he said little but his action and support closed the sale.
