JOHN S., of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Philadelphia and Eagles Mere, PA, died on July 7, 2015 with his wife Alix (Montgomery Dial) at his side. He is survived by his 3 children: John H. Estey (Amy); Caroline E. King (Adrian, Jr.); and Martin G. Estey; 2 step-children: N. Minter Dial (Yendi); and Elisabeth D. Carr (Shamus); and 7 grandchildren: Anne F. Estey; Ezra E. Estey; Harper G. Estey; Sarah W. Estey; Margaret E. King; Sophie C. Purinton-Estey; and Leslie G. King. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Harper Glenn, who passed away in 1984. John was born in New York City on April 11, 1926. He graduated from Friends Seminary School in New York City, a member of the class of 1943. He entered Haverford College and joined the U.S. Navy. He participated in a Navy Officer Training Program that sent him to Swarthmore College and then to Harvard University. He graduated in 1947 from Haverford College where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from Yale Law School in 1950. John practiced corporate and bankruptcy law for over three decades at the Philadelphia law firm Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP. After a long and distinguished career, he retired as Managing Partner of the firm in 1996. Friends and family will gather for a celebration of John's life on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. at The Racquet Club, 215 South 16th Street, Phila., PA. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to the Eagles Mere Conservancy, P.O. Box 64, Eagles Mere, PA 17731.
