Doc Etheridge Obituary

Doc Horace Etheridge Jr.
Shawboro - Surrounded by his family and friends, Doc Horace Etheridge Jr., began the first day of his heavenly life on December 3, 2012. Doc was born on November 7, 1926 in Shawboro, NC to the late Doc Horace Etheridge, Sr. and Annie Mae Gregory Etheridge. He was a lifetime resident of Shawboro except for the 18 months he served in the United States Navy during World War II. A member of "The Greatest Generation", Doc left high school to join the Navy and proudly served his country in the Pacific Theater.
Doc returned home from the war and completed his education graduating from Elizabeth City High School in 1947. He began farming with his Father and continued tilling the earth until the end of his life. In 1949 he met and later married Iris Earp. They spent 58 years dancing through life together as husband and wife, parents, and best friends until the Lord called Iris home on March 20, 2008.
Doc is survived by four children: Owen Etheridge of Shawboro, NC; Joe Etheridge and wife, Laura, of Shawboro, NC; Jane Etheridge of Duck, NC , and LeAnn Etheridge and husband, Patrick McInerney, of Nashville, TN. Doc is also survived by his five grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Pope Etheridge and wife, Nicole, and their son, Tate, of Barco, NC; Lindsey Etheridge Tice and husband, Gregory, and their children - Alexis , Ashton and Oliver, of Moyock, NC; Will Small and fiancé, Kelly Tran, of San Diego, CA; Zach Small of Southern Shores, NC; and Chris Davis of Charleston, SC; many nephews and nieces; and his best friend and chosen sister, Carolyn Thrasher of Virginia Beach, VA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 600 W. Ehringhaus Street, Elizabeth City, NC. President Donald Drake of the Currituck Branch will officiate. Immediately following the Service, the family will greet friends and family in the Church's Cultural Hall and at all other times at the residence at 882 Shawboro Rd., Shawboro, NC. A private burial will follow later at the Etheridge Family Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donation in Doc's memory be made to your favorite charity. The family also welcomes flowers.
It is with heavy and rejoicing hearts that we say good bye to Daddy on this earth, but we know he is fully healed and at peace in the arms of his Heavenly Father. The family would like to thank Dr. Lindsey White, Dr. Jasvinder Singh, and the wonderful nurses and support staff in the Albemarle Hospital MICU Unit, who lovingly cared for Daddy and all of us the last eight days of his earthly life. There are no words that can express how much we appreciate the care, respect, love, and compassion you gave daily.
