First of all my condolences to Chief Bowers family and I hope to god that I have right Chief Bowers that was stationed in San Diego at the Naval Training Center back in 1968. If this is the same Chief Bowers, then I would love to tell you as a naval cadet in training back then, having Chief Bowers as our training instructor was one of the very best things that ever happened to me in my short but interesting career in the Navy. I too went to Vetnam and served proudly but never forgot my naval training thanks to Chief Bowers and his sturn but excellent teaching methods that I appreciated later in my naval career. I loved the Chief's beautiful 1963 white Pontiac Convertible that he drove on the base and as a young kid back then who loved cool cars we'd talk about his ride and how much he loved it. Yeah, he looked good in it, and he knew it. What a cool guy Chief Bowers was, and this proud U.S. Navy Vietnam Vet will always remember the first Navy Chief that changed my life at NTC San Diego, in 1968.

Sincerly, Richard J. LaGrasta
