Alvin Doxey Obituary

Alvin D. Doxey Jr. NORFOLK - Alvin Dey Doxey Jr., 77, a lifetime resident of Virginia Beach and Norfolk, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He graduated from Maury High School and the Norfolk Division of The College of William & Mary. He is survived by his companion of 23 years, Lee Diffenderfer; three sons, Jeff Doxey and wife Karen of Richmond, Clay Doxey and wife Ellen of Fredericksburg, and Brad Doxey and wife Janice of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Randie Doxey of Waterford, Ireland and Meredith Doxey of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Matt, Kate and Brooks; a sister, Pat Newnam of Norfolk; and nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Dey Doxey Sr. and Minnie Jones Doxey. The family offers heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, especially of the BTU, PVSU and NICU units and Trauma service. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, VA 23513.
