Joyce Harris Obituary

Joyce A. Harris PORTSMOUTH - Joyce Ausley Harris, 72, of Nelson Street, died Sept. 13, 2010 in her home. A native of Hertford County, North Carolina, she retired from Western Branch Diesel as a secretary. Mrs. Harris was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and was a volunteer with its Foot Ministry and Card Ministry; sang in the church choir and the Norfolk and Portsmouth Civic Chorus, was a member of Portsmouth Par'dners (square dance club), Beta Sigma Phi, Gamma Eta Chapter and CB Club Channel 40. She was a Civil Air Patrol navigator and Portsmouth Humane Society supporter. Survivors include her husband, John E. Harris and a brother, Calvin Bruce Ausley of Portsmouth. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by Pastor Jim Woodland. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church or the Portsmouth Humane Society. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
