Mary George Obituary

Mary C. George PORTSMOUTH - Mary Curtin George, 91, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 in Hickory, N.C. She had been a lifelong resident of Portsmouth until 2008 when she moved to North Carolina to be near her son. She was the daughter of the late Edward L. and Virginia S. Curtin. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, James T. George Jr. and a sister, Nathalie Curtin Miles. She is survived by her son, Ron George and his wife Posie of Morganton, N.C.; a granddaughter, Ruth King and her husband Justin of Indian Trail, N.C.; two brothers, Edward L. Curtin Jr. and his wife Marge of Norfolk and Sidney M. Curtin and his wife Elaine of Lexington, S.C.; and many very special nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, by the Rev. David Cupps at Greenlawn Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the mausoleum one hour prior to the service. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling arrangements. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Sterling House in Hickory, for their love and kindness during Mary's last days as well as the staff of Burke Hospice for their assistance and support. Mary was a kind and generous woman who enjoyed life very much. She loved her family, her close friends and her home. She will be missed. In lieu of flowers, Mary asked that donations be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church, 34 Afton Parkway, Portsmouth, where she had been a longtime member. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
