Milfred Rountree Obituary

Milfred S. Rountree CHESAPEAKE - Milfred Shirley Rountree, 88, of the 4800 block of Charlton Drive, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 in a Portsmouth hospital. A native of Hobbsville, N.C., he was the son of the late Thomas and Sarah Hurdle Rountree. Mr. Rountree was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a shipfitter in Shop 11 and was the owner/operator of Youthland Clothing Store. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Marjorie F. Rountree; a daughter, Brenda Rountree of Portsmouth; three sons, Wayne Rountree and wife Joyce of Chesapeake, Glenn Rountree and wife Diane of Carrollton and Keith Rountree and wife Ida of Chesapeake; two sisters, Virginia Smith of Sandy Cross, N.C., and Norma Hinant of Chester, Va.; five grandchildren, Russell, Michael, Jayme, Abby and Brandon; and a great-grandchild, Georgia Gene. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Gene Boyce. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jolliff United Methodist Church Building Fund. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
