Anastacia Dunleavy Obituary

Anastacia Dunleavy NORFOLK - Anastacia "Stacia" Dunleavy passed away Monday Oct. 25, 2010. Born April 4, 1920 in Springfield, Vt., she was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, U.S. Navy Lieutenant Richard B. Dunleavy; a sister, Catherine and brother, Walt Dubanevich. She was the daughter of Amelia and Ignacius Dubanevich. Unknown to each other at the time, at the age of 16 they immigrated to the United States, through Ellis Island after fleeing Krakow, Poland. They had each left Poland with one suitcase. Both suitcases were lost on the journey. After meeting through their U.S. sponsor they were married two weeks later. Stacia and Richard were married in 1943 and moved to Norfolk during his naval service in World War II and Korea. After he returned from abroad they decided to make Norfolk their home. Stacia is survived by and proud of her sons, Michael J. Dunleavy (Pam) of Chesapeake, Thomas J. "T.J." Dunleavy (Theresa) of Norfolk; her beloved daughter, Marysharon Melchiorre (Mike) of Norfolk; her grandchildren, Sarah Thompson, Patrick, John, Bryan, Mathew, Andrew, Caitlynne, and Allison Dunleavy, and Chelsea and Michael Melchiorre; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her passion for her family, friends, gardening, and animals, Stacia loved to cook and was happiest when she was able to feed visitors who came to her home. She always had something on the stove and hamburger in the fridge along with her special ice tea. She will be missed by family and friends and her great neighbors who always looked out after her. She was a wonderful wife and a great mother. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Dan Beamon officiating. The family will receive friends in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA. Online condolences may be offered to the family at hdoliver.com.

Dearest Dunleavy family,
There are no words to express my sympathy and love for each of you esp Stacia. Each time I came to Norfolk, I would visit with her. Walking into the house, or even in the yard was like going home. It was filled with love and many happy memories. I can not begin to tell you what my visits with Stacia ment to me. We covered every subject from the time she met your father to current times and re-living wonderful memories, so many some of when she met your father, their first apt. My grandmother, and my Daddy and Dick, oh and sharing the seeder...us kids growing up together. She shared pictures and stories of each of you bring me up to date on what you were doing. She loved her family and was so very proud of each of you. She was so full of love of life in her family, garding, friends and neighbors. I am with each of you in love, spirt and prayers. I am so sorry that I could not be there in person. If there were anyway, I would. Your mother was so very special to me, and always will be.
With love, prayers and Blessings...
