Dorothy Thomson Obituary

Dorothy K. Thomson NORFOLK - Dorothy Knowles Thomson, 97, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010. She was a former supervisor and instructor of operating room techniques at The Medical College of Virginia Hospital Division. Born in Woodard, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Martha Smithwick Knowles and William F. Knowles, and was the widow of Dr. James Levi Thomson, M.D. Mrs. Thomson was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, a longtime member of Ghent United Methodist Church, and was one of the founding members of The Ghent Venture. Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Martha Mae Thomson of Richmond; a son, James L. Thomson Jr. and his wife Denise of Norfolk; a sister, Mabel Knowles Cash of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, James L. Thomson III and his wife Susanna, and Tyler Thomson and his wife Catherine both of Norfolk; and three great-grandchildren, Harrison Thomson, Carter Thomson and Elliott Thomson. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, in Ghent United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bill McClung. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ghent United Methodist Church, 531 Raleigh Ave., Norfolk, VA 23507. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
