Billie Sue Gale and John Hale
April 25, 2010
I am John Hale, and I presently live in Williamsburg, Virginia. My wife is Billie Sue GALE who descends the GALE family of Isle of Wight County, Virginia. When we were living in Northern Virginia, I made several day trips to the Isle of Wight County Clerk’s Office to research my wife’s GALE family. On one of those trips in 1997, by chance, I met Alvin Reynolds in the Clerk’s Office. He asked what I was researching, and I told him the GALE family, and in particular, Fannie Gale, on whom we were “brickwalled”, genealogically speaking. Alvin said “I know about Fannie Gale, but do you really want to know about her?” to which I responded, “Of course I do”. Alvin then pointed me in the direction of Fannie Gale, who in 1799, apparently had a relationship with Jacob Darden, Jr., which resulted in a child, Buxton W. Gale, born on March 7, 1800, and from whom my wife descends. The Isle of Wight court records beginning in 1801 document where Fannie Gale took Jacob Darden, Jr., to court for child support, and won her case. Fannie never married, apparently had no other living children, and died before July 2, 1821. Later Jacob Darden’s will, recorded on November 5, 1827, stipulated that an equal amount be left to his children and to one Buxton Gale.
I never met Alvin again, but talked to him several times on the phone. His “pointing the way” to Fannie Gale and Jacob Darden, Jr., resulted in a breakthrough in the GALE family genealogy, and a fascinating and courageous story about my wife’s family. I will forever be indebted to Alvin for his guidance.

The entire Hassell family wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the Reynolds family on the loss of Alvin Parker. We cherish the memories of living next door to Parker, Leslie, AP, Jack, and Scotty. Battery Park during the 70's was truly a magical place to grow up. Our thoughts and our prayers are with you all and we know that only time will heal your hearts. May God bless each and every one of you.

Alvin was a good friend and will be missed. He had a great many friends at the TGS and VBGS, mostly I think, because he was a great friend to all.
It seems like just yesterday that I was helping him learn, and solve computer genealogical programs and helping solve computer problems...but were do the years go...that wasn't yesterday, that was 1983 or 84. I will miss you old friend.

Alvin will be remembered for the help he gave others in researching their family history. Organizing the bus trips to DC, and sending out those reminders to those of us who wanted to go, but often "forgot" about them. I pray for his family, and those who will miss him.

Alvin was a dear friend of ours for many years through various lineage organizations. He was always so thoughtful and helpful, but we want to emphasize his wonderful sense of humor. His laughter was contagious and he was such a joy to be around. He will be greatly missed.

Jack: At a time like this, words really can't ease the pain you are feeling, but hopefully you will find some comfort in knowing that you and your family are in the hearts and prayers of everyone that knew A.P. It seems just yesterday we were ALL "growing up" on the Park ... He will certainly be missed. Love,
