Virginia Beach - Barbara Hopkins Crist, was called home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2011. She enjoyed life for 94 years.
Barbara was born in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of the late Ida Seeley Hopkins and Robert Henry Hopkins.
She was the widow of Capt. Harold F. Crist, USN, her husband, Cdr. George M. Rooney, USN, died in 1978.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Rooney Horton of Chesapeake, Va. and Debra Elise Weston of Leonardtown, Md.; three grandchildren: Catherine Hart Greiber (David) of King George, Va., William Edgar Hart, III (Shayna) of Norfolk, Va., and Valerie Elaine Hart of Fairfax, Va., two great grandsons, Zachary Paul Greiber and William Edgar Hart, IV, one great-granddaughter, Madison Elaine Greiber, a sister Shirley H. Mulderrig of Virginia Beach, three nephews: Lee Mulderrig of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Kevin Mulderrig of Virginia Beach, Va. and Craig Mulderrig of Norfolk, Va. She was predeceased by her grandson, Gregory Eliot Hart and a nephew Brian Mulderrig.
Barbara was a member of Old Dominion, Chapter #100, Order of the Eastern Star for 46 years. She was a member of Retired Officers Wives (ROWS), a member of Old Donation Episcopal Church, The St. Cecelia Choir and ODEC Bridge Club.
She was also a member and past president of Sentara Bayside Hospital Auxiliary Board. In 2006 she received a Certificate of Appreciation for 2234 hours of volunteer service at Bayside Hospital. She was also a member of Sentara Princess Anne Hospital Auxiliary.

Hollomon-Brown Bayside Chapel will host a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Va. Wednesday January 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be celebrated at Old Donation Episcopal Church at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012.
