Bernard Gould Obituary

Bernard John Gould NORFOLK - Bernard J. "Benny" Gould, 81, of Norfolk, passed away Sept. 22, 2010 in Maryview Nursing Center. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Corinne and Harry Gould. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. A self-made man, Benny Gould was an aircraft mechanic at N.A.S. Norfolk, as well as had the "Benny Gould Dance Band and Orchestra" for nearly 40 years. He started his own business, a musical instrument shop, called the "Musician's Shop" and later billed as Benny Gould's Music World. He then started buying real estate in residential and commercial buildings. He started an Italian Restaurant with his wife, Angelina, called "Mamma- Lina's Italian Restaurant." Benny Gould had a reputation for being a very well- known and respected businessman in his community. He will truly be missed by many close friends and loved ones who knew him. Benny was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Angelina "Lina" FranciaL' Erario Gould. He is survived by his daughter, Roxanne C. Spellman and husband Robert of San Diego, Calif.; son, Frank B. Gould and wife Susan of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Stephen A. Spellman and Cameron T. Spellman both of San Diego; two stepgrandchildren, Jonathan Mestinsek of Lincoln, Ill., and Calasse Jones of Norfolk; a cousin, Rita Brigerman of Vera Beach, Fla.; extended family members, Angelina M. Loiercio and husband Antonio and family of Norfolk and Ellen A. Rooney and family of Norfolk. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Gabler officiating. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Monday from 7 to 10 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. I was in the navy stationed in Norfolk when I met Mr. Gould. I only talked with a few times at the store and I played one gig with him, but his influence has been with me ever since. I wound up making the navy a career thanks to his words of wisdom. Thank you, Benny. Rest easy.
