Bernice W. Brooks EDENTON - Bernice Williams Brooks, 76, of the 100 block of Country Side Drive, died Oct. 3, 2008, at Chowan Hospital. Mrs. Brooks, a Chowan County native, was the daughter of the late Lottie Wilson and Ernest Baker Williams. She was married to the late Robert "Bob" Brooks Sr. Mrs. Brooks retired from George C. Moore Co. after 30 years of service. After retirement, she volunteered at the Chowan Clothes Closet. She also took much pride in the making of blankets for children undergoing surgery at Chowan Hospital. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Edenton Baptist Church where she was active in the Joy Club, E.L. Wells Missionary Group and Laura Harrell Sunday School class. Surviving Mrs. Brooks are her daughter, Susan B. Furlough and two sons, Robert "Robbie" Lee Brooks and his wife Kim of Raleigh, N.C., and John Allen Brooks and his wife Barbara of Asheville, N.C.; son-in-law, Dalton L. Furlough of Edenton; two brothers, Kermit Williams and his wife Beverly of Cary, N.C., and Murray Williams and his wife Joyce of Edenton; five grandchildren, Emily Brooks, Matt Brooks, Nicholas Furlough and his wife Heather, Adam Furlough and Zack Brintle and wife Krystyn; two great-grandchildren, Kaleigh and Ayden Furlough; as well as numerous very special friends and caregivers. Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin, Lindsey, Lloyd and Louis Williams. A celebration of Mrs. Brooks' life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Edenton Baptist Church with the Rev. David Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
