Carolyn Garris

Carolyn H. Garris NORFOLK - Carolyn H. Garris, 74, went home to be with her Lord Sept. 28, 2010 in a local hospital. A native of Mount Vernon, Mo., she retired from Schultz & James Company as a secretary. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk and the Shepherd's Bible class. Carolyn was valedictorian of the Norview High School class of 1954. She was a quiet, humble woman with a strong Christian faith. She enjoyed traveling with her family. She adored her husband and son. She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Garris; her mother, Nona F. Hammer of Virginia Beach; her son, Jeff A. Garris of Williamsburg, Va.; and a sister, Shirley Upton of Norfolk. She was predeceased by her father, Clyde E. Hammer. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Dick Baker officiating. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Carolyn H.
