Christine Blount Obituary

Christine S. Blount VIRGINIA BEACH - Christine Blount, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Christmas morning at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Charlotte, N.C., having spent the day being loved and attended to by her family. Mrs. Blount, along with her twin brother, William, was born in Roper, N.C., Sept. 9, 1914. Her parents, Walton Chester and Mary Woodley Spruill, had a total of nine children. Mrs. Blount's only living sibling, Tommy, resides with his wife Joyce in Franklin, Va. Mrs. Blount was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy D. Blount Sr., and by six brothers and one sister. Jesus Christ was the strength of her life. For many years she was a devoted member of Somme Avenue Church of Christ in Norfolk and then of Laurel Avenue Church of Christ in Chesapeake. She faithfully served in various church positions through the years and she and her husband were faithful to lead their children to love the Lord. Her deep faith and iron-will carried her through the many struggles in her life. Mrs. Blount possessed many God-given traits which made her much loved by family and friends. Among those gifts was her quick wit which gave so much joy to those around her. Her love for her own children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews - as well as her delight in all children - made her a great favorite with them. She also loved having others come to her home, and no one who ever ate at her table could forget what a terrific cook she was. Mrs. Blount also loved keeping her yard and home beautiful. In fact, her sense of the beautiful was exquisite. Last of all, her love of travel took her to all but two of our states. Without a doubt, her favorite trip was to Hawaii. Mrs. Blount is survived by her children: Jack Spruill Blount and his wife Phyllis, Roy Daniel Blount Jr., and his wife Barbara, and her daughter Mary Blount Shepard and her husband Paul. In addition, she leaves behind nine grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. She will be greatly missed and eternally loved by each of them. Mrs. Blount's family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to Dr. David Haden, Mai and Jennifer who gave her wonderful attention and care, and to all of those of Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region who so lovingly and tenderly cared for her. The comfort and help given by these wonderful people were amazing. In addition, Dr. Ashley Gaines and his staff gave her great care while she lived in Charlotte. Also, Mrs. Blount was lovingly welcomed and cared for by the staff of University Senior Adult Day Care Center whenever she was able to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Laurel Avenue Church of Christ, 1126 Laurel Ave., Chesapeake, VA 23325 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, with Minister Rupert Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park will be private.
