Diane Perry Obituary

Diane Morton Perry VIRGINIA BEACH - Diane Winkler Morton Perry entered into eternal life early Friday morning, April 16, 2010, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Diane lived most of her life on the Peninsula. She retired from Verizon after 30 years of service. She also worked for Norfolk Public Schools as a bus driver. Diane loved life and was a very outgoing woman. She loved her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Diane was preceded in death by her father, Russell Winkler. Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Josephine "Gerry" McKinney; two sons, David A. Morton and Daniel W. Morton; one granddaughter, Rachel Morton; two brothers, Russell A. "Winky" Winkler Jr. and wife Natalie and Ronald W. "Ronnie" McKinney; two sisters, Debra Whitmore and husband Johnny and Joyce Brock and husband Richard; numerous nieces and nephews; the children's father, Wayne C. Morton; and a very special friend, Rita Laber. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, at Faith Freewill Baptist Church, 16053 Carrolton Blvd., Carrolton, VA 23314, with burial following at Peninsula Memorial Park. The family would like to say a special thanks to all who helped during Diane's illness.

It is with the deepest sadness, that I found out about Diane's passing. She was one of the nicest persons I encountered in C&P , Bell Atlantic, Verizon. With heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Diane's family at this very sad time. I had the pleasure of working with your 'lovely Indian Princess' (our nickname for her in the Verizon office). She was always very sweet to me and I enjoyed our many talks at break time.....I do know she will be sorely missed. Diane has now the everlasting joy of no more pain and being in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

Any person would be blessed to have had a friend like Diane. She was a very special lady...fun-loving, generous, and caring. I'll remember her that way...but mostly as a mother who would do anything for her boys. Rita and I will miss her greatly as will so many that knew her. Diane died holding fast to God's promise given to believers in Christ..."to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". As we do also. Jesus is our only comfort in this tough time. May He be the source of comfort to the grieving family too.

We had the privilege to know Diane when she was married to my father, Ned Perry. We have many happy memories of Diane and Ned and the time we spent together. Diane was my classmate at NNHS as was her brother and brother-in-law Johnny. She was a good friend and I extend my sympathy to Russ, Debbie and her entire family. I'm sorry I couldn't be there for the service in her honor! Good memories in high school and for her family to cherish...GOD BLESS!

I worked with Diane at Verizon Coin in Norfolk. She was a wonderful person with a BIG heart. She was closer to me than my own sister. I will miss her dearly. To David and Daniel, take comfort in the knowledge that Diane is resting safe in the arms of Jesus. God Bless You both and your family.

What I am feeling right now is very hard to express. Diane was a very dear friend of mine. We worked together,played together and have taken our sons together on vacation when they were young.
