Ellin Johnstone

Ellin F. Johnstone VIRGINIA BEACH - Ruth Ellin Fogle Johnstone, 83, died Feb. 25, 2010. Mrs. Johnstone was born in Baltimore Feb. 21, 1927 to the late Earl L. Fogle and Ruth Fogle. She graduated from Eastern High School and Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, and was a registered nurse. Mrs. Johnstone was the wife of the late Frank L. Johnstone, her husband of 61 years. Mrs. Johnstone was an Episcopalian and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Norfolk, where she served as director of the church's EYC. She was a member of the Suburban Woman's Club, Retired Officers' Wives Club (ROWS), and a weekly bridge group in the Witchduck area. Mrs. Johnstone is survived by her sister, Eva M. Gustafson and her husband Robert of Severna Park, Md.; her cousin, Jane Murray of Timonium, Md.; her brother- in-law, Eugene H. Johnstone and his wife Peggy of Chestertown, Md.; her sister-in- law, Virginia Sisson and her husband Harold of Columbus, Miss.; her daughters, Margaret J. Miller and her husband S.E. "Skip" Miller, Carol J. Heischober and Robin J. Baugh, all of Virginia Beach; her sons, David H. Johnstone and his wife Kimberly and Paul L. Johnstone, all of Virginia Beach; and her grandchildren, Andy Miller and his wife MaryAnn, Nate Miller, Jay Johnstone, Jessica Johnstone, and Elizabeth Baugh. She was predeceased by her parents and her granddaughter, Erin Heischober. Whether she was showing you how to bait a crab trap, pick the juiciest strawberries, swing a softball bat, catch the perfect wave, or revise a term paper, she had a special way of making each family member and friend feel loved. Her recipes and, especially, her stories will be treasured for generations to come. Life with her was an adventure full of laughter and learning. Granny, you will be missed. The Cremation Society of Virginia is handling her arrangements with a private family ceremony to be held at a later date.
