Herbert Gallop Obituary

Herbert D. Gallop HARBINGER - Herbert Dorland Gallop, 90, of the 100 block of Herbert Gallop Lane, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Albemarle Hospital. Born in Currituck County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Isaac "Ike" Gallop and the late Bertie Montague Gallop. Mr. Gallop was retired from The Virginian-Pilot where he had worked as a typesetter. He had belonged to the International Typographical Union since 1950 and also to the Communication Workers of America. Mr. Gallop was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Coast Guard as a chief boatswain's mate. He was a member of Powells Point Christian Church where he was a trustee for many years. Mr. Gallop is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters and three brothers. He was the last surviving child of Isaac and Bertie Gallop. A graveside funeral service was held Monday, May 10, at the Powells Point Christian Church Cemetery with Pastor David Coxson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Powells Point Christian Church, 197 Church Road, Harbinger, NC 27941. Twiford Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, assisted the Gallop family. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.twifordfh.com.
