Ira White Obituary

Ira Spike White VIRGINIA BEACH - Ira Spike White, 79, passed away Sept. 6, 2009, in Norfolk. He was born in Norfolk and resided in Lake Shores in Virginia Beach for more than 50 years. He was a member of Bayside Presbyterian Church, Chesapeake Athletic Club, Norfolk Sports Club, and the Norfolk Host Lions Club. When he turned 18, he began serving in the Navy for the next eight years. He was the son of the late James Robert and Mae Brothers White. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Reid White, whom he cherished for 54 years; two daughters, Theresa White Dunstan and husband Mike, Melissa White Ludwick and husband Earl, all of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Nichole Dunstan, Jessica Castellanos and husband Leo, Katie Dunstan, Michelle Dunstan and William Ludwick IV, all of Virginia Beach; brother, Robert James White of Norfolk; two nieces, Mary Belle White and Robin White. He was an avid sports fan who participated in all sports at an early age. He had the dream job of owning and operating the Diamond Club Restaurant at Met Baseball Park, where he built a lifetime of friendships he treasured dearly. It was here that he reportedly received the first ABC license for an outdoor sports arena in Virginia. In his earlier years, he was affiliated with the Chesapeake Casino and the Nassau Inn. He most recently worked at Fulton Bank where he thoroughly enjoyed the company of his coworkers and considered them his good friends. The immediate family wants to extend a thank you to all of their family and friends for being so close to them during their most difficult time. Spike always made his loved ones a priority, whether it was living on the family compound or being there for anyone who needed him. He would be so proud and honored to know his family was well taken care of just as he had done for them all his life. It will be through all of us that his legacy will continue. He taught us well. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. in Bayside Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. George Fitzgerald and the Rev. Dr. Richard Keever followed by a reception in the church social hall. Inurnment will be in Bayside Presbyterian Church Columbarium. My family has known Spike, Dolores, and the "kids" for 52 of my 58 years. Spike was such a wonderful friend to my Mother and Father. We will miss him very much. For all these years we would look across the street and there he would be....working in the yard....always with a smile and kind words. To Dolores, Theresa, and Melissa go our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sad to hear of Spikes passing. He always had a smile and a story. I enjoyed our conversations about sports or family when he stopped in on his rounds here at the Bank. I know he will be greatly missed. May memories you shared be a comfort in getting through this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of working with and getting to know Spike while I was a teller at our Hilltop Branch of Resource Bank. Although I posted out to our main office on Bonney Road, I still ran into Spike on occasion, and continued our frequent conversations about our families. I will miss those chit chats with him but I feel so fortunate that I even had those moments with him. I'm so sorry about your family's loss. Please know that Spike will truly be missed by many here at Fulton Bank, formerly Resource Bank! He was funny, kind, and one of the hardest working people that I have ever met.

May the good Lord wrap his loving arms around Spike and hold him in eternal peace. May his family be comforted by knowing that Spike touched so many of us in a positive way every day. I will long remember the joking conversations we had at the bank as he made his rounds. I will truly miss his smile and upbeat attitude. God Bless.

Dear Dolores, Theresa, Melissa and family,
I just wanted to let you know how much I will miss Spike. I was honored to have known him this last seven years. He was my mapquest. If I ever needed to know how to get somewhere I would just ask Spike and he would give me directions. If he did not know he would go and find the place for me and let me know the best way. He knew everthing,(ha, ha) I would love to get him started on why the gas goes up every day, or something the democrates were trying to do, or our va power bills. I will also miss our morning talks before he got started on his route. A lot of times we would share jokes with each other to start our day. He loved his family, Dolores, his girls, and grand children and he was always telling me how nice his son in laws were helping him with the yard or pool or Christmans lights. God has picked another flower for His table and he will be greatly missed. If I can do anything for you, you have my number. It was an honor to be able to call him my friend and co-worker. We really had some great times together.
God bless you and comfort you at this time of great sorrow.

He was my friend,
Teresa Daniel
