Jack Bailey Obituary

Jack A. Bailey VIRGINIA BEACH - Jack Allen Bailey, 77, went to be in the Lord's care Sept. 28, 2009. Jack resided in Virginia Beach since 1958. He was born in Southampton County, Virginia, and was the son of the late Charlie Bailey and Novella Clark Bailey Frost. He attended schools in Ivor and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1950. He was also a Baptist. Jack retired in 1990 as a director in the Metrology Engineering Division, Naval Standards Lab, Naval Air Rework Facility, Norfolk, with 32 years of government service. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Joyner Bailey; his daughter, Brenda Bailey Clark; and a grandson, William Colin Clark. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joe Calvin Bailey and Julian Bailey. Other survivors include his nieces, Connie Bailey Carr and Jo Ann Bailey Fentress; nephews, Karlus Bailey, Michael Bailey and Jeff Bailey; and great-nieces and -nephews. Jack served in the United States Navy on active duty during the Korean War from February 1951 to February 1955. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1958. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. As members of Jack Allen's extended family, we recall many family reunions plus ongoing efforts to keep us all connected. Nellie and Russell are dealing with health issues but want you to know our thoughts and prayers are with your family. We will miss Jack but have wonderful memories on which to reflect.

We are thinking of you, Barbara, and we will miss Jack and talking with him on the phone, since we're here in Ga., we won't be able to attend the services. He and Frank had some good times fishing and of course going to frankies's for crab cakes. Our prayers are with you and the family
