James Morris Obituary

James E. Morris NORFOLK - Senior Chief Storekeeper James E. Morris, U.S. Navy retired, 96, was a beloved father and the husband of the late Genvieve Burns Morris. He retired from the U.S. Navy and the Navy Regional Finance Center. He was a member of Naomi Lodge No. 87 and a member of Ocean View Presbyterian Church. He was a skilled bowler in the senior citizens league at Bowlarama, a passionate gardener, wildlife lover, avid traveler and lover of life and family. He passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Left to keep his memory alive are his daughters, Yvonne Soltes and her husband Keith and their children Dwayne Soltes, Bonita Baker and Franki Lambiotte, Renee Hughes and her husband Doug and their children Kelly Hughes and Wendy Hughes; his sisters, Eva May Morris and Honey Emmanuelson and her husband Ray; many beloved nieces, nephews; and a special friend, Virginia Simmons. The family will welcome friends and relatives at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, today, May 31, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Please come and share a story with us as we remember James' life. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ocean View Presbyterian Church by Gary W. Combs. Burial with full military honors and Masonic rites will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Reception will be held in Ocean View Presbyterian Church social hall following the burial. Memorial donations may be made to Ocean View Presbyterian Church, 9200 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23503 or Alzheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502, include donor's name and address in memory of James E.
