James Oglethorpe Obituary

James B. Oglethorpe VIRGINIA BEACH - James B. Oglethorpe, 94, of the 400 block of Cedar Lane, passed away Oct. 8, 2010 in his home. He was a graduate of Riverside Military Academy and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a retired CPA in Norfolk. He was a member and past president of Virginia Bowhunters Association, and Past Master, Owens Masonic Lodge No, 164 AF&AM where he was a 73-year member. He was a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church and was of American Indian descent. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Spence Oglethorpe; three children, Steven J. Oglethorpe of Virginia Beach, Paige Shriver of Chesterfield, Va., and Brenda Lindsey of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, several great- grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Theresa L. Oglethorpe. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, Oct. 11, at noon in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, Sunday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
