Jane Martin Obituary

Jane Martin VIRGINIA BEACH - Mrs. Jane Burgess Martin, residing at Pacifica Senior Living in Virginia Beach, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010. She was born in Lake Forest, Ill., May 23, 1921 to Edwin "Ned" Burgess and Erna Strenger Burgess. After graduating from Lake Forest High School in 1939, she married Carlton Russell Martin Aug. 30, 1941. Mr. Martin's Navy career brought them to the Norfolk/ Virginia Beach area in 1948 where they lived since that time. She was a legal secretary for many years in the Fifth Naval District Legal Office at the Norfolk Naval Base until her retirement in 1976. She was predeceased by her husband; her brother, Edwin Charles Burgess; and her sister, Carmen Burgess Olson. She is survived by two sons, Russell E. Martin of Norfolk and Roger L. Martin of Gloucester; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. Inurnment will be next to her husband in the East Side Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy may be made to one's favorite charity. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
