John Meakin Obituary

J. Leonard Meakin VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Army Col. John Leonard Meakin died after an extended illness on Aug. 27, 2010. He was born on Dec. 8, 1918 in Washington, D.C. He was predeceased by his parents, Frances Hardie Meakin and Marguerite De Sale Meakin; and his wife, Betty Korbel Meakin. After graduating from Western High School in Washington, D.C., and the University of Maryland at College Park, Md., he served in the U.S. Army in India, Germany and at the Pentagon for over 30 years. He owned and operated Jobs for the Handicapped and worked in the mortgage, sales and marketing industries throughout his lifetime. Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Patricia B. Meakin; his son, John William Meakin of Georgia; his brother, Hardie Meakin and his wife Eve of California; his stepsons, Art King and his wife Lenna of Leesburg, Va., Alan King and his wife Connie, and John C. King and his wife Kim of Virginia Beach; his step- grandchildren, Ashley Restivo and her husband James of Pittsburg, A.J. King and Jenna King of Virginia Beach, Justin Delitis of Richmond and Lucas Delitis of Leesburg. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery on Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hdoliver.com.
