Kathryn Page Obituary

Kathryn Antley Page PORTSMOUTH - Kathryn Antley Page, 90, died peacefully Nov. 15, 2010 after a lengthy bout with Alz- heimer's disease. She was the daughter of Kathleen Kirkland Antley and James Ashton Antley Sr. of Orangeburg, S.C. Kathryn was born in Cope, S.C. While still a young child her family moved to Orangeburg, where she grew up and attended Orangeburg public schools and Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. It was at Limestone, in 1937, that Kathryn met her future husband, H. Cliff Page Sr. Their marriage occurred after the end of World War II, in June 1946. Kathryn became a Navy wife and remained so until Cliff's retirement in 1972. As a Navy wife, Kathryn was active in the Navy Relief Society and dedicated many hours to that cause. She was a member of many different officer's wives' clubs, and served as president of the Fleet Officer's Wives' Club in Long Beach, Calif. She was a mentor to many young Navy wives in Naples, Italy, while her husband served with the Sixth Fleet. In San Francisco, she organized transportation from San Francisco to Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland for Navy wives who required hospital treatment and had no transportation or were too ill to drive. Kathryn was a member of the Fort Nelson Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution and of the Elizabeth River Garden Club. She held responsible offices in both organizations. Her reputation as a floral arranger was widespread. The Page's retired in Portsmouth. In 1972 where Kathryn was already active with Churchland Baptist Church - there she taught a class of young girls, worked in the nursery and served two terms as a deacon. She was an active member of the Church's Special Studies Class. Kathryn was predeceased by her parents and her brother, James Ashton Antley Jr. She is survived by her husband, H. Cliff Page Sr.; her sons, H. Cliff Jr. and Ashton Page of Portsmouth; as well as her son, Stephen and his daughter Tara of Boulder, Colo. Other survivors are: Fredrick Antley of Columbia, S.C., James A. Antley III of Charleston, S.C., Mary Elizabeth Ellis of Aiken, S.C., and her former daughter-in-law, Dale Durland of Boulder. A funeral to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday at Churchland Baptist Church, Chesapeake, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lawrence B. Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Churchland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Kathryn's name to the Alzheimer's Association or to Churchland Baptist Church.
