Louise Lilly Obituary

Louise L. Lilly NORFOLK - Louise Lewis Lilly, 95, returned to God Dec. 23, 2010. She was born in Conetoe, N.C., to the late Thad and Edith Lewis and was the oldest of eight children, all of whom she survived. She left home at age 17 to support her family after the death of her father and worked at Hofheimer's Shoes for more than 40 years, enjoying many longterm friendships with management, staff and customers. She met her future husband, Rodman when living with her aunt and uncle in Portsmouth while he was visiting family. They were married for 38 years until his death in 1975. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Dr. Edward L. Lilly and Linda of Norfolk and Rodman G. Lilly Jr. and Donna of Henderson, Tenn.; four grandsons, Ned, Todd, Kevin and Brent; and seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Ethan, Mason, Lauren, Ashton and Avelyn Louise. She was a Sunday school teacher and Circle leader at Park Place United Methodist Church for 61 years and more recently a member of Larchmont United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Suburban Women's Club, Town and Gown and several bridge groups. The family would like to thank her friends, the residents and staff of Harbor's Edge for their many kindnesses. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, in Larchmont United Methodist Church by the Rev. Scott Rimer and the Rev. Sarah Wastella. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. A visitation with family and friends will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Larchmont United Methodist Church, the Resident's Fund at Harbor's Edge, or to a charity of choice. Online condolences may be made through www.hdoliver. com.
