Mary Lewis Obituary

Mary L. Lewis NORFOLK - Mary L. "La-La" Lewis, 81, passed away Oct. 24, 2010. She was born on Oct. 29, 1928 in Norfolk to the late Watt and Clara Haskins. She was educated in Norfolk Public Schools and was a Christian woman who affiliated with various local churches. She was a retired homemaker. Mary was predeceased by three sons, James, Gayland and Michael Lewis, and one daughter, Sabrina Jones. She is survived by one daughter, Valerie Neal (Reuben) of Virginia Beach; four sons, John J. Lewis Jr. (Gail) of Greensboro, N.C., Recardo Lewis of Norfolk, Cornell Lewis Sr. of Richmond, Calvin Lewis of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a special care provider, Pamela Nobles of Chesapeake; two sisters, Dorothy Matthews and Ruth Haskins; one brother, James Haskins; and a host of other relatives and friends. "La-La," as she was affectionately known, will be greatly missed. A homegoing service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Metropolitan Funeral Services, Berkley Chapel. The Rev. Eloise Neal-Moore will officiate. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 1412 Anne St. one hour prior to service for the procession to the church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Chapel. The family extends thanks to the Sentara PACE Program and to the staff at Sentara Village, Norfolk, and a special thanks to Sentara Nursing Center, Norfolk, including Susan Banks and the staff on South 2C.
