Mary Renninger Obituary

Mary Ann Renninger VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary Ann Renninger, 100, went to be with the Lord June 3, 2010. Born May 13, 1910 in Minersville, Pa., to the late Joseph and Anella Gudelaskas, she lived the majority of her life in the Llewellyn and Allentown areas of Pennsylvania. In 1993, she relocated to Virginia Beach to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Mary loved life. She was a teacher and gardening was a much cherished pastime -- her green thumb nurturing many varieties of flowers and vegetables. However, when asked the secret to her longevity, Mary would always answer, "Having a loving family and friends." Mary touched the heart of everyone she met and will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, William E. Renninger; son, Edwin Renninger; sister, Helen Matthews; and brother, Frank Gudelaskas. Left to honor and cherish her memory are Mary's children: daughter, Joan Rebmann and husband Fred of Virginia Beach; sons, Ronald Renninger and wife Mary Ellen, Gary Renninger and wife Elizabeth, all of Pottsville, Pa., and Joseph Renninger and wife Lisa of Carlisle, Pa.; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mary's life will be held June 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Tidewater United Church of Christ, 2660 West Neck Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made at pages.teamintraining.org/nce/nikesf10/rrebmann. This will support Mary's granddaughter in her endeavor to run the Nike Women's Marathon to support research for leukemia, a disease from which Mary suffered during her lifetime.

Here's to you, Nan. You always treated us fairly, honestly, and were non-judgemental, with the touch of a grandmothers love. For that, I thank you. Plus, you never wavered in your belief that 'Mike's a good boy'. In the end, turns out you were right all along. Rest in peace, Nan.

Nana dear...Words cannot convey the sense of loss of not having your sweet, wonderful, smile, or your beautiful, encouraging, words on a daily basis. We received a blessing from God, by having a grand-mother like you in our lives, which provided us with an infinite amount of joy everyday. Until we all shall be together again, we pray our Nana's spirit will always be in our hearts and soul, helping us through life along the way.

For Mary's Family,
Mary was one of my favorites whenever I visited Baypoint as Pinkywink the Clown. She was a beautiful lady and I could tell that she had a loving family. I did not know that she had been a teacher and loved gardening, but reading about that made me smile, because I am a retired teacher and passionate gardener. I will always remember singing "Happy Birthday" to her when she turned 100. What wonderful memories your family must have of Mary, although I know that you will miss her. She touched my heart, and I will think of her when I'm amongst my flowers in the garden. God Bless.
