McNora Owens Obituary

McNora Owens NORFOLK - McNora "Tina" Owens, 55, of the 3500 block of Kentucky Ave., went home to be with the Lord Nov. 3, 2010. A native of North Carolina, she moved to Norfolk at a young age and lived with her aunt, Gloria Bailey. She was educated in the Nash County, North Carolina and Norfolk Public School system and attended Norfolk State University. In 1980 McNora and Ronald entered into each others lives and they married in June 1986. From this union came one daughter, Jillian Marie. She retired from Sentara Health Systems in March 2010 after 35 years of service. She was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board No. 1. Her two pleasures were shopping and reading. She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Owens and daughter Jillian M. Owens of Norfolk; mother, Ernestine Mitchell of Castilia, N.C.; father, John Ricks of Chesapeake; six sisters, Sarah Mitchell, Lossie Wardrick (Larry), Deborah Melton (Alonzo) of Castilia, Carol Ricks (Paul), Sandra Dawson (Benjamin), both of Chesapeake, and Shelia Ricks of Norfolk; two brothers, Duncan Mitchell of Castilia and Dennis Ricks (Angelia) of Norfolk; one very special aunt, Gloria Bailey (Tate) of Virginia Beach; one brother- in-law, John B. Owens Jr. (Connie) of Sacramento, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday in Second Calvary Baptist Church, 2940 Corprew Ave., Norfolk. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. Viewing will be held 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Avenue Chapel.
