Mildred Brooks Obituary

Mildred Leary Brooks SHAWBORO - Mildred Leary Brooks, 69, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in Shawboro, N.C. Mildred was born June 10, 1940 in Richmond, Va. She was the daughter of Martin Jones Leary and Bessie Mae Leary. She was predeceased by a daughter, Catherine Brooks Hardesty and her brother, Eugene. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, James R. Brooks Jr.; her three daughters, Teresa Perkinson Hocutt, Cheryle Brooks Canfield, and Rebecca Brooks Skaggs; one brother, Albert J. Leary; one sister, Sara Ferris; her nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Thomas Mercer will officiate. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.
