Rebecca Able CHESAPEAKE - Rebecca "Becky" Able passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at Barnes Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, Mo., due to complications after a heart transplant. She was approaching 63 years this December. She was born in Chesapeake to the late Marion Earnest and Lauren Evelyn Thomas Meacom. She is survived by her two sons, Wayne Able and his wife Angie of Granite City, Ill., Chris Able and his wife Julie of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Chad and Zachery Able, Jacob and Samantha Able of Poulsbo, Wash.; brothers, David Meacom and wife Barbara of Jacksonville, N.C., John Meacom and wife Rose of Farmville, Va., Florence Smith and husband Tom of Mineral, Va., Alice Pritchard and husband William of Virginia Beach; aunt, Alice Meacom of Chesapeake. Becky lived a full life and had few regrets. She grew up in Chesapeake. Her marriage to David Able moved her to Louisville, Ky., and then ventured to Lake City, Tenn., to own a family-run convenience store for better than 10 years. Her next chapter included moving back to Virginia Beach and work at Lillian Vernon for roughly 15 years. In her last year, due to health, she moved to St. Louis to live with her son and family. She loved to be adventurous and try new things. She had many friends and family ties throughout Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. She was a member of several churches in each location to include Chesapeake Ave. United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, Main Street Baptist Church, Lake City, Tenn., and Bethal Baptist and Celebration Church of Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674, "In Memory of Becky Able." There will be a celebration of life held this summer in Virginia Beach for her. No specific dates have been set. Arrangements are being made by her sons. Email only: [email protected].

Becky was a wonderful person and a very sincere friend. She would do anything for anyone that would need help or a listening ear. We were both hired on the exact same day at Lillian Vernon in 1992 and had been good friends ever since. God Bless her family. May you find strength through this time of loss. Her spirit will always remain.
