Sarah Glassman Obituary

Sarah E. Glassman NORFOLK - After but a short journey here, Sarah Elisabeth Glassman passed away Aug. 30, 2010. Surrounded by her parents, her precious time with us ended peacefully. Born in Norfolk on Jan. 30, 2007, Sarah had an extremely rare disorder, Niemann-Pick Disease Type A/B. Loved by all who knew her, delicate and tiny Sarah was an amazing inspiration. It was an honor to be with this little angel. She taught everyone the true value of each day on earth and gave us all so many happy memories. Sarah is survived by her parents, Aaron and Valerie Glassman of Norfolk; her little brother, Zachary Ethan Glassman; her grandparents, Dr. Myron "Mike" and Nanci Glassman of Norfolk; her grandmother, Brenda Bowling of Nashville, Tenn.; her grandfather, Kevin Bowling Sr. of Old Hickory, Tenn.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and admirers. The family would like to express our gratitude to Sarah's most amazing nanny, Janet Leigh Berquist, for her devotion to Sarah, gentle manner, and love; Dr. Joseph Toland for his warm compassion and the tremendous gift of his time; Edmarc Hospice for Children for their constant support and assistance; and Toby's Dream Foundation for making Sarah's final months more comfortable. The burial will be private in Forest Lawn Cemetery, with Rabbi Rosalin Mandelberg officiating. Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, is handling the arrangements. The family will receive visitors at their home from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2. There will be a Shiva Minyan service at 5:30 p.m. Online condolences may also be made by visiting www.altmeyer.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent in Sarah's name to Edmarc Hospice for Children at 516 London Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704, www.Edmarc.org, or The National Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation, www.nnpdf. org.

Val and Aaron my condolences go to you and your family during this time in your lives. She is in a better place now and flying with all the angels and running around in her little princess outfits. She will always be watching over you and your family and of course her little brother. Hugs always Kimmy
