Stella Bowers Obituary

Stella C. Bowers CHESAPEAKE - Stella C. Bowers, 90, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010. She was the widow of David H. Bowers Jr. She was a native of Pitt County, North Carolina, and a retired federal government employee and a member of Norview United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Bill and Ray Cannon and two sisters, Mildred Mittura and Nellie Harris. She was a beloved Mother, Nana, Grandma Stella, Aunt Stella and Sister. Surviving are her son, Will Bowers and his wife Peggy of Chesapeake; her sisters, Lee Joseph of Midlothian, Va., Vivian Lucien of Norfolk and Barbara Mills of Greenville, N.C.; her brothers, Charlie Cannon and Donnie Cannon, both of Greenville, N.C.; granddaughter, Dawn Starling of Mount Dora, Fla.; stepgranddaughter, Constance Halleen of Chesapeake; and grandson, Paul Coe Jr. of Thaxton, Va. She was deeply loved by many and is survived by countless nieces and nephews, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, and where funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Stella's name to the National Kidney Foundation.
