Sylvia Marshburn Obituary

Sylvia Marshburn NORFOLK - Sylvia "Silbo" Marshburn of the 200 block of W. 30th St., died June 29, 2011. She was a native of Norfolk. She is survived by her husband, George Marshburn; two stepdaughters, Laura Thompson and Chenetta Moore, both of North Carolina; three stepsons, George Marshburn Jr. of Maryland, Melvin Marshburn and Kelvin Marshburn, both of New York; six sisters, Geraldine Harris of Norfolk, Faye Harris of New Jersey, Yvonne Purvis of Chesapeake, Regina Miller of Kansas, Barbara Worsley of Hampton and Barbara Chavis of Chesapeake; one brother, Elvernone Purvis; a special friend for life, Doris "Dot" Booth; and host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Harris-Purvis, and her father, John H. Purvis. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, in Mount Herman Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Lewis presiding. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Homes Chapel, Norfolk, is in charge. The remains will be ready for viewing Monday, July 4, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at the residence at 10 a.m. for the procession. www.carlosahowardfuneralhome.com.
