William John Collins NEWPORT NEWS - William J. Collins went to his eternal resting place on Friday, April 30, 2010. He was born June 23, 1920 in Chincoteague, Va. Mr. Collins was a retired developer and builder who formed the William J. Collins Co. He developed and built homes in Salisbury, Md., Norfolk, and Chesapeake. He was the son of the late Harry J. and Lydia Pointer Collins. "If only for awhile we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on. So, if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near. And, if you listen with your heart, you'll hear all my love around you soft and clear." Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Collins; daughter, Billie C. Hughes and husband John; son, John Collins and wife Jeanette, all of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Norma C. Price of Suffolk; and her dear friend, Sam Berry; two stepdaughters, Debbie Bourne and husband Danny of Augusta, Ga., Judy L. Rinick and husband Danny of Chesapeake; two brothers, the late Robert S. Collins and the late Harry J. Collins; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, 1477 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA 23320. The burial will take place at a later date in Christ's Sanctified Holy Church Cemetery in Perry, Ga. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ's Sanctified Holy Church in care of Danny Collins, P.O. Box 64786, Virginia Beach, VA 23467.
