Yvonne Rountree Obituary

Yvonne Rountree PORTSMOUTH - Yvonne Rountree passed away Nov. 10, 2010. Born in Portsmouth on April 7, 1944, to the late Thomas and Ethel Jones, Yvonne led a life of service and had a passion for teaching and a zeal for life and family. Yvonne lived in Atlanta, and taught on both the secondary and college levels. After graduating from I.C. Norcom High School in 1962, Yvonne earned bachelor and master degrees in education. Yvonne was currently a candidate for the doctoral degree. Yvonne was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Yvonne was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Renarda and sisters, Brenda Spruill and Clarine Coltrane. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Linwood; son and daughter-in-law, Lin and Yolanda; one granddaughter, Kaylin Hubbard; five sisters: Dorothy Valentine (Herman) and Marlene Joe (Morgan) of Chesapeake; Ethel Parham (Vernon) of Portsmouth, Deborah Dickerson (Henry) of Durham, N.C., and Pamela Harris of Portsmouth; four brothers, Curtis Jones of Portsmouth, Thomas Jones (Delphine) of New York, Keith Jones (Felicia) of Suffolk and Kevin Jones of Virginia Beach; a sister- in-law, Connie Jeffries, brothers-in-law, Louis Spruill of Portsmouth and Durand Coltrane of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral will be held Thursday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at Seventh-day Adventist, 3709 Winchester Drive, Portsmouth, with Dr. Kelvin Turner of Zion Baptist Church officiating. A viewing will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The body will be in the church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Rountree was our favorite face to see when The Jordan Foundation partnered with Douglass High School. She was a trooper when it came down to dealing and handling the youth at all the schools she was involved with. May the family find solace during this time and may God richly bless you all. She will truly be missed.
