George McAtee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 28, 2008.

George W. McAtee VIRGINIA BEACH - George Whitecotton McAtee, 82, a faithful husband, friend and Christian, passed from this life to life eternal June 25, 2008. George leaves behind his wife and constant companion, Joyce Davis McAtee. George and Joyce were married on the feast of the Epiphany, Jan. 6, 1950, and enjoyed 58 years of extreme happiness. George McAtee was a Washingtonian, born, raised, educated and married in D.C. He was a World War II veteran, stationed in Norfolk and discharged from the Navy in July 1946. George had a career in marketing and distribution. Early in his career, he took a sales position with the Addressograph-Multigraph Corp. During the next 25 years he earned positions as sales manager for Manhattan (New York), branch manager in Binghamton, N.Y., and positions in Washington, D.C., and Norfolk. Retirement came in 1995 after eight years with the Wescott Co. George and Joyce moved to Westminster Canterbury on the Chesapeake Bay from their beachfront home on Byrn Brae Drive in May of 2002. They were very active and faithful members of St. Bride's Episcopal Church and again, in more recent years, at Old Donation Episcopal Church. George will be missed greatly for his wonderful sense of humor, constant gift of encouragement and for the model he presented of a loving husband. The funeral and internment will take place today at 1 p.m. at Old Donation Episcopal Church, 4449 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, (757) 497-0563, with the Rev. Robert J. Randall, the Rev. Elizabeth Felicetti and the Rev. Bill Hoffman officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Old Donation Episcopal Church.
