Marcia Keaton Obituary

Marcia Salmons Keaton VIRGINIA BEACH-Marcia Salmons Keaton, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., went home to be with her Father in heaven Wednesday March 30, 2011. Born Jan. 8, 1961 in Augusta, Ga., Marcia lived out the early years of her life in Georgia and Michigan before landing in Virginia Beach - a place she dearly loved. Marcia's life was marked by her love for life, for her family, and for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a courageous soul and a vibrant person. She truly lived each day as if it was a gift, filling every moment with plans, deeds, and thoughts of those she loved. She was beautiful and uncompromising, but her beauty was an afterthought since she focused her efforts on others. She believed strongly in respect and was truly a champion for the nameless, lost and needy. Her flame burned brightly, warming all who came in contact with her. Her beautiful family became extended by those who adopted her and whom she adopted. She loved this family fiercely, celebrating every milestone with the zeal that her early life had lacked. She became an inspiration simply by being herself. She decided to fly jets and in her favorite pilot job, she was truly an angel of mercy, flying transplant organs to hopeful families. She drove motorcycles and rode horses. She had a heart for abused and neglected children, evidenced by the many hours she spent working with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). She also taught young children in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Marcia is survived by her husband, Davide Keaton; her daughters, Megan Salmons and Stephanie Rittler and husband Matt, and their father David Salmons; as well as her sisters, Connie Weaver and Micki Haubold. She is missed and her memory will be long cherished by all who knew and loved her. The family will be receiving visitors between 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home in Virginia Beach (Kempsville). A celebration of Marcia's life will be held at noon April 6 at Spring Branch Community Church followed by a reception at Waterman's at the Oceanfront. Flowers may be sent to Smith & Williams Funeral Home. Donations in honor of Marcia may be made to CASA at www.casaforchildren.org. In addition, the Kitty Hawk Chapter of 99's (non-profit women pilot organization) has established a scholarship fund in her honor. If interested in donating to this fund, please contact Karen Baskin at golfingpilot@suddenlink. net. You may pay your condolences at www.smithandwilliamskempsville.com.

It has been more than a year since Marcia's passing but it is an event that shook me deeply. I worked on aircraft being flown by Marcia and she could not have been more kind and more understanding. You don't find that in many pilots. She elevated them as a group. She was, obviously, someone very special and I am sorry for the families loss.

Dave,
My prayers are with you. Lean on the Lord, He will be your strength and the only thing that will give you true peace. May the Lord give you the Strength, Peace and Understanding to make it through each day. Anytime you want to talk or come by...we are here. When I explained what happened to Sophia she said "Momma, that's ok...she has beautiful Angel wings just like my Daddy and she will always live in here (while she pointed to her heart)." So remember that Dave. No time and no one will ever be able to take away the love you had for each other.

When Marcia walked into a room it brightened. Every time, no matter what and Marcia never realized the effect she created with her joy and love of life. Being so unaware of how beautiful and amazing she was made her even more special to all of us who got to spend time with her. May we all carry that light with us every day and live our lives sharing the joy and love that she offered so freely to us.

In God's universe, there are many mansions. A place was prepared for Marcia long before she left her earthly bonds and she is there now with the Heavenly Host. In the Eternal Love of Our Father, there is no death, only LIFE. The transformation from material to spirit is overseen by the Holy Trinity and none shall ever need to fear dropping the mortal coil to put on the Heavenly Garment of Light which awaits us.
