Jon Blank Obituary
Portsmouth - Jon Edward Blank, 52, died March 23, 2013 after a long battle with liver cancer. A native of Missouri, he was a proud retired Chief in the U.S. Navy and a medical administrator. Jon was a Christian man.
Survivors include his wife, Lauren F. Blank; a daughter, Jessica E. Blank and grandson, Maverick Wade of Hampton; two sons, Ryan A. Blank and wife Lauren Marie of Alexandria and Eric M. Blank of Chesapeake; two sisters, Cheryl Blank and Carol Wilson; and one brother, Ron Blank.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Mar. 29, at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the hour before the service. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com

Jon Blank was the epitome of professionalism, knowledge and a true gentleman, in every sense of the word. He had an enormus heart and truly showed concern and care for people. I will forever be grateful to him for the training, patience
and understanding he showed me. Im sure you are in heaven , Jon. Rest high and in peace there my friend.

Jon knew when to talk and when to listen. I knew he was going to be a friend, as well as a boss when shortly after I started working at Beverly Manor in Portsmouth, my dad passed and I found out at work and he offered to take me home to meet my family because I was a mess. He was talking in that calm, soothing voice of his until I could get myself together. Not only that but he was always so supportive of my goals- he wrote the nicest letter of recommendation for me (despite being really busy). He will be missed by many, I am sure. I reluctantly did not keep in touch except for brief contact 2 years ago. My prayers are with his family. I am so sorry that I was unable to attend the service.

Jon was one of my most cherished friends. Jon was a loyal friend who would do anything for anybody and with a smile. My heart is heavy and I will miss him calling me "Smokey" and himself "Juan Blanco". I am a better person for knowing Jon. My deepest thoughts are with his family and friends.

It is refreshing to work for a man who is a real person. Jon is that for me. I worked with him for less than a year, but I have known him as an true human being with caring, love, heartbreak, enthusiasm and getting the job done without all the extra drama. I will miss him. I know others who do already. I wish you peace in knowing he lived a worthwhile life making a difference for others.

Jon was, without a doubt, the best Administrator I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He always treated people with fairness and equality and was the only Administrator I have ever worked with that allowed the Director of Nursing to run the nursing side of healthcare. We shared many laughs, I will miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I only wish there was something I could've done. I know he is resting in peace now and will watch over his loved ones throughout eternity.
