Johnny was my most valued friend at James Madison grammar school in Lamberts Point. I knew him from the second grade, played sports together, discussed all sorts of topics that seemed precocious for ones so young, thanks to his initiating those conversations.
Johnny inspired me in so many ways and in all likelihood changed my life for the better. I´ve always wanted to find him and reconnect to tell him just that. Now this obituary! Living in California for more than sixty years made for a seemingly impossible separation. All along I´ve meant try to contact him but waited for much too long. Let that be a lesson for us all.
I´m so sorry for the loss that his loved ones must feel. Johnny I´ll keep you in my memory for the rest of my life. And I thank you for our childhood friendship. You were great!

34 years ago I started practicing law in Norfolk. I asked my partners back then how long would I have to work to earn a reputation as good as John Crumpler's ? I am still trying . John was a wonderful man and a fabulous lawyer . We will all miss him very much .
