BLOOMINGTON - Shirley C. Copes, 85, residing at Bickford House in Bloomington, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at Bickford House.
She was born on Nov. 20, 1925, in Pekin, Ill., to Presley A. Bastian and Clara (Meyer) Bastian. They preceded her in death.
She was married to Fred L. Copes on June 23, 1945, in Pekin, Ill. He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1994.
She also was preceded in death by two great grandsons, Caden Copes and Kellen Copes; and one nephew, Barry Bastian.
She is survived by four sons, Dr. F. Larry (Linda) Copes of LeRoy, Ill.; Commander J.A. (Mandy) Copes of Heyworth, Ill., Dr. William E. (Dawn) Copes of Lexington, Ill., and Robert P. (Audra) Copes of Novi, Mich.; two brothers, Bud (Lois) Bastian of Dahinda, Ill., and James Bastian of Pekin, Ill.; ten grandchildren, Lance (Kristin) Copes, Tracy (Troy) Anderson, John (Michelle) Copes II, Nicole (Joe) Sprucebank, Brandon Copes, Teal (Johnny) Hunter, Chelsey Copes, Scott Copes, Andrew Copes and Aaron Copes; and 13 great-grandchildren, Carter Copes, Kerigan Copes, Taylor Anderson, Erin Anderson, Phadra Copes, John Copes III, Jac Copes, Max Copes, Brittany Sprucebank, Madison Sprucebank, Kaya Copes, Mara Copes and Emma Copes. She also is survived by her sweet dog, Lee-Tu-Won-Tu.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at Henderson Funeral Home in Pekin. Jay Zimmerman and the Rev. Ron Little will officiate. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery in Green Valley, Ill. There will be no visitation.
