PLYMOUTH - Robert C. "Bob" Ringenberg, 73, of Plymouth, Illinois, died at 3:50 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, in OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1937, in Dixon, Illinois, to Walter C. and Elizabeth "Betty" Oster Ringenberg. He married Melva Jean VanFleet on May 29, 1958, in Brooklyn, Illinois. He later married Sally Creasey Thompson on Jan. 17, 1985, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bob was a well-known Plymouth-area farmer. He served as a board member for the Plymouth School District for many years, was a past president of the Tri-County Country Club and was a founding member of the Crooked Creek Antique Tractor Club.
Bob was a longstanding behind-the-scenes supporter of many area organizations and fundraising activities, and was instrumental in the development of the Chris Miller Ball Park in Plymouth by donating the land for the park.
He was a 1955 graduate of Rushville High School and served his country in the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Ringenberg of Plymouth, Ill.; a daughter, Marsha (Tim) Dace and their sons, Dakota and Jared Dace of Roseville, Ill.; two stepsons, Todd (Judy) Thompson of Plymouth, Ill., and Aaron (Patty) Thompson of Augusta, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Kerri (Wally) Pollack of Berryton, Kansas; three brothers, Ronald (Nancy) Ringenberg of Peoria, Ill., Carl (Dorcas) Ringenberg of Chillicothe, Ill., and Alan (Jill) Ringenberg of Prophetstown, Ill.; a sister, Jane (Mike) Hovey of Prophetstown, Ill.; 10 stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Karen Ringenberg of Peoria, Ill.; and a brother-in-law, Joe Apple of Dixon, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Ringenberg; and a sister, Mae Apple.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, in Round Prairie Cemetery near Plymouth by the Rev. Tom Mehaffy. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the Southeastern High School FFA or the Tri-County Rescue Squad.
