'Best mom' remembered
for generosity, love of travel
MORTON - Janet K. "Jan" Renfroe, 59, of Morton died at 10:12 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2011, at her home.
She was born Sept. 21, 1951, in Peoria to Donald M. and Gladys (Kaufman) Carius. She married Keith Redman on July 13, 1974, in Washington. She later married Ernest Wayne Renfroe in 1989 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Wayne preceded her in death in 1998. She also was preceded in death by her mother.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Redman and Darren (Nancy) Redman, both of Houston, Texas; one granddaughter, Sofia Redman; her father, Donald Carius of Morton; one sister, Jean (Timothy) Meeks of Washington; two brothers, Larry (Kay) Carius of Bloomington and Terry (Julie) Carius of Houston; and a former Rotary exchange student who resided with her, Rafael Mendez of San Cristobal, Venezuela.
She was a 1973 graduate of Illinois State University in Normal.
Jan was employed as a systems analyst with Caterpillar Inc. since 1981.
Jan will be remembered for her generosity and love for traveling. Janet's most recent joy was spending time in Houston with her granddaughter, sons and daughter-in-law. She was the best mom.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with an Apostolic Christian Church minister officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2501 Chatham Road, Suite 210, Springfield, IL 62704.
