PEORIA - Josephine (Thompson) Boone, 79, of Peoria, Ill., passed away peacefully at 12:36 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at her daughter, Desiree's, home, surrounded by her family.
Josephine was born on Dec. 6, 1935, in Peoria, Ill., to Joseph and Sarah Ray (Oden) Thompson. She married the love of her life, Ronald Boone, on Oct. 26, 1952, in Peoria. They were married for more than 62 years, when he preceded her in death on March 14, 2014.
Josephine is survived by two daughters, Desiree Boone and Rhonda Boone; two sons, Duane and Durwin (Sandra) Boone; one dear brother-in-law, Andrew (Judith) Boone; seven grandchildren, Joseph Knox, Durwin Boone, Demario Boone, Jason Boone, Isaiah Boone, Alisha Williams and Janae Williams; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters and great-grand-twins, Janiya and Jaiden Knox.
She worked for Caterpillar Inc. for more than 30 years, retiring July 1, 1999.
She was Past Worthy Matron of Silver Star Chapter 74 O.E.S., Prince Hall Affiliated of the State of Illinois and its Jurisdiction; Past Loyal Lady Ruler of Menelik Assembly 58 Order of the Golden Circle; and Past Illustrious Commandress of Kamar Court 113 of Springfield, Ill. Josephine also was affiliated with the NAACP, food shelters (distributing Christmas baskets), the YWCA, Red Cross and various clothing drives.
Josephine was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 9 a.m. Pastor Alphonso Lyons will officiate. Josephine will be laid to rest at Camp Butler National Cemetery, along with her beloved husband.
Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association, Central Illinois Chapter.
